Think we may get the All American Mangum this year. I think his average is over 500 so far. He's elite on D

I know hes had some bad moments baserunning and bad AB's but this team is a lot better with him than without. He aint ManDumb

Why we would make a derogatory nickname for our all american center fielder is weird.

Agree. He does some questionable things baserunning and swings at a lot of pitches, but he is a great hitter and a great CF.

We got some cyber bully personalities up in here, I imagine the average poster here to be +30, maybe I’m a decade or two off

He's hitting .400. But miracles happen he walked twice so far. His hand eye coordination is incredible. I wish we had more of him.

He's a better pure hitter than Adam Frazier. But, and it's a big but, he's lh and doesn't have he utility role possibility to get him to the bigs like Adam. OF that don't hit for power and don't steal bases have to really really hit to get to the show. But I sure hope he makes it. Odds are long though

One of those was an IBB. It wouldn't have surprised me at all if he swung at some of those pitches while they were trying to IBB him either.

He can run, bunts pretty well in general, and has a good arm. He does seem like he would project more as a fourth OF/pinch hit/pinch run guy at the MLB level at the moment though. Another thing that I've seen him do that some fans miss is he takes chances he shouldn't in the outfield trying to throw out runners basically trying to do too much.

he's batting .400 and making real good plays in the outfield. no need to slam him or call him dumb.

TODD: what do you mean by taking too many chances trying to throw out runners?

Example 1: Governor's Cup last year. Ole Miss gets a hit with a runner and scoring position who would have scored easily on everyone not named Ken Griffey, Jr., Willie Mays, etc. Mangum makes a wild offline throw and now not only does the run score which he would have anyway but the runner for Ole Miss that got the hit moved up into scoring position.

Example 2: This past weekend against Houston or ULL. Pretty much the exact same situation as above with a slightly better throw that was still off line and not close.

With our offense we can't afford to give away bases like that.

ahhh, makes sense , thanks. no need to try and stop a run when it's gonna score anyway when you can hold the hitter to a single.

Mangum has been raking the last 4 games and he needs to be because he makes about 2-3 mental errors a game on the base paths. For a leadoff hitter he is the worst decision maker I have ever seen this far along in his career as a base runner. Before he was raking he was swinging at everything. He still swings at everything he's just putting it where they ain't right now. His nickname has never been about his fielding. For the 37th best prospect in the nation he shouldn't be making terrible base running errors at the rate he does.

He was 3 of 3. After a single, the pitcher threw over ~15 times trying to keep him close to 1st. After a single, he got to third when others wouldn't haver tried. Most of his base path errors are due to 'pushing the envelope' to gain an advantage.

Damn glad to have him on the team, wished we had a couple more like him, and have watched the last 3 or 4 games and DON'T recall those 2-3 mental errors in those games.

Yes he can run, but he's not a base stealer, per se, at this level much less the next one.

I love me some Mangum, but I'm afraid he will go down as just being a damned good college player. he's a helluva fielding center fielder. has the ability to hit for a high average. but to be a MLB center fielder you would also have to add some base stealing or power to that resume and I don't see him getting there. hope I get proven wrong.

We have some dumb fans who seem to think giving nicknames to players will somehow make them play better (even if they’re already playing at a high level)
