the 17ing head coach is wire tapped and he's discussing a $100K payment to get the croot to AZ.

It’s crazy if they let them in the tourney, because they will possibly have wins vacated, and the NCAA doesn’t want tourney wins to be vacated.

Because it's not proven (or litigated) yet? Is the coach still at Arizona?

Arizona will probably self-impose an NCAA Tournament ban this season.

Years from now, the NCAA will vacate any wins from this season, maybe more if this rabbit hole goes deep.

He’s on administrative leave and will soon be Pitino’ed.

Who's the guilty party at Alabama re: Sexton? Is it the current coach? He always seemed like an OK sort to me. Easier to believe of Pearl.

question. what if something like this happens. Adidas rep tells croot that if you go to a particular school, we'll give you $100K. croot agrees and signs with the Adidas school of their choice. croot gets paid but the school never knew croot got paid by Adidas. (of course we know that's very unlikely).

but if the NCAA couldn't prove the school knew about it, would the school still be in trouble? or would it be just the player in trouble with eligibility?

It seems like AZ would sit the kid, they have all the proof needed. Geez what a mess.

NCAA doesn't operate like the judicial system. They ruled on Cam Newton in one week. I don't see how they can let Zona in the tourney.

Sounds like a question for Cam Newton’s dad.

This is what I've been wondering about. Except for Arizona, most of the allegations that have been released are that an agent (not the school or boosters) made payments to an athlete or their family. In my opinion, this thing is so far reaching that if the NCAA were to punish every school involved, they would basically have to shut down college basketball. They're not going to do that. Instead, I'm thinking they'll rule the players ineligible, have the schools vacate any wins they accumulated while playing ineligible players, and that will be the end of it. No scholarship reductions, no recruiting restrictions, no show causes, etc; EXCEPT in cases where they find that the schools knew and/or participated (looking at you Arizona).

That said, I can't believe Arizona is taking the position of letting this guy continue to play. That's a bold move, Cotton.

Might be taking a page out of OM playbook...worked out pretty well for them. Besides, if they end up vacating wins in all the games he played, what's a few more gonna hurt?

Any school is stupid to self report and self impose penalties.....History has shown us the best strategy is to just keep on what you are doing... the NCAA has already said there won't be any more SMU type punishments...Ole Miss has set the bar on crimes vs punishment. Ole Miss should have never self imposed any penalties, they would have played in a bowl last year and be bowl eligible this year.... They should have just released a statement saying they are aware of the allegations and are working with the NCAA and have no comment.

Because the NCAA knows that almost all of the non-automatic bid teams in the Tourney are guilty. For any competitive basketball program, the only question of whether they are going to get popped is whether the FBI looked at them hard enough. What if they disqualify Arizona and then the day after Selection sunday another 12 tournament teams are identified? There's nothing for them to do but move forward and know that they are going to take their lumps when the FBI report comes out in full.

No one, other than possibly Sexton himself. The documents released last week allege that Sexton or maybe Sexton's parent(s) had dinner with an agent, which in itself isn't against the rules as long as the check is split. There's nothing to indicate any of his coaches or anyone else knew anything about it.

Unless more details came out that I missed...

The NCAA isn't (and shouldn't) going to do anything on this scandal until the FBI is finished.
