    2018 ESPN Preseason FPI

ESPN's 2018 preseason FPI came out today & MSU is #16.

We are 4th in the SEC & significantly higher than LSU. It'll be interesting to see how lazy the media is when A&M, LSU, & South Carolina are predicted higher than us at SEC media days. I mean they literally just have to read the FPI or Bill Connelly's S&P.

Auburn is 7th. Doesn't feel like they will be this good though. Not sure I get the love for them.
    Texas A&M is 20th
    LSU is 26th
    South Carolina 28th
    Ole Miss 45
    Arkansas 54

Wash and ND in the top ten automatically invalidate that poll.

I think you will see that special teams rank drastically improve with Moorehead. He mentioned that right along with offense and defense.

Yeah, I mean Washington wasn’t in the playoff in 2016 or anything. 2017 was a bit of a reload for them, but they return a lot next year. Wouldn’t be shocking to see them make another playoff push.

Auburn is going to be very good again. Their problem is their road games include Starkville, Athens, and T-Town.

I don't see why our ranking is so low on special teams to begin with. We have a PK who was Freshman All-American, an Army All-American High School Punter ready to take over punting, we have the returning national leader in blocked kicks coming back, we were #3 in the SEC in fewest punt return yards allowed, #1 in the SEC in fewest kickoff return yards allowed. Our only weakness was returning kicks - and I think we all know Dan was instructing guys to fair catch all punts and let all kicks go into the endzone. If Moorhead just lets guys run we will be very highly ranked on special teams next year.

Also naming the Auburn QB a pre-season Heisman contender. Like clockwork. I don't see a Cam Newton on that roster.

What about RB situation at AU? Aren't they down to two guys with limited experience?

Maybe, but there’s more questions with usc than Washington imo. I just don’t think Washington in the top 10 is outrageous or unreasonable. I’d also take Petersen over Helton all day every day.

They always have talented backs though. Bigger issue for them is losing 4 OL

Auburn did beat the national champion last year. Preseason rankings have influence on the rankings that come after. That's the problem with them. I'm glad to see a trend toward more parity in SECW. At this point, we're still in the mix.

True they always have talented backs, but it won't be someone on their 2017 roster. They lost their top two guys and their third is more of a change of pace guy. They'll be relying heavily on a true freshman named Asa Martin. Great high school player but probably needs to add some weight before he is ready for the workload Gus usually gives his top RB's. This position is a question mark for them for this first time in a while.

Dear Sweet, 9 pound, Baby Jesus,

Please let Notre Dame and Washington make the CFP.

    Thanks in advance.

True. Funny tho how Bama loses entire D, Ridley, 1 if not 2 RBs, and still ranked as high as they are. Probably because based off 1 game, Tua is better than Joe and Tom. Also funny how for someone that can't put a QB into the league, every QB Saban has performs better than Joe or Tom in big games when they need to come from behind to win. Tua, Hurts, Sims, ... all of them. And if for some chance they can't pull it off (LSU 2011, AU this year), they'll get a 2nd chance. Now they did allow OSU to beat Bama in 2014 but that title game sucked ... OSU vs Oregon. Who wants to watch that? 2013 Kick six play was a fluke win for AU.
