Weekend Cooking & Drinking Thread: Looking Ahead Edition

Kind of a dead weekend around here. I'll probably cook something on the grill Saturday. Besides that nothing much going on. I'm already planning Super Bowl menu in my head for next week.

At home this weekend with no hunting, so I was hoping for a window to fish....I?m already bored, looking at the forecast.

Woodford on the rocks for now. Trying to find something for the grill.

We went out tonight....the only decent BBQ joint in Massachusetts, lol.

Though this won't instill a lot of confidence in the place (the food is actually good), it's funny nonetheless: tonight we had a side of collard greens, and I asked for some "pepper sauce"...the waitress says "OK" and goes to get it....she comes back a minute or so later and tells us she's "not sure what we meant", so I say "ya know, pepper vinegar...for the greens"....she says "gotcha"...She goes, and a minute later returns with....not shitting y'all....MALT. VINEGAR. Lolz....Damn New England is a funny place.

I'm drinking the last bit of a (Christmas present) bottle of Lagavulin 16 tonight. Currently watching The Thing...

Got to lay low,,,, my time to get sick, so it is NyQuil straight up. (maybe the green kind will taste better on the rocks or with a chaser). However, it gives me a chance to slow cook a homemade chicken vegetable soup tomorrow. No recipe, just slinging from left field. We will see about 6:30 if it will be fit to eat.

That's hilarious Beardo. Typical Mass thing to give you malt vinegar lol. I have work today so I'm going to be lazy tonight. I ran by the store last night and bought a bunch of pre-made stuff. We're going to do filets, crab cakes, roasted portabello caps, and mashed taters. Today I'm smoking some chicken quarters for my staff. I'll post that later.

Quick budget meal tonight. Dinner for 2 under $20. Bacon wrapped steaks (4.99 x 2), pre made crab cakes ($5.99 sale), mash taters (.99), and portobello caps ($3). Won’t win any awards but it was fine.

Picked up some monk today at the store and felt like getting fancy....

Seared monk fish over mashed black beans, pomme rosti, with a salad/quick pickle of red onion, chili, radish, and cilantro, and an avocado puree. Also drizzled it with my homemade chili oil....turned out pretty legit. Drinking a few St. Pauli Girls...

Those crab cakes look pretty nice. Is that lump meat? and htf did you get those for $5.99?

They weren’t straight lump meat. It’s not a frozen product. I’d put it on the level of a casual chain crab cake; like a chili’s or Applebee’s. They were regularly $9.99 and were on sale. I browse the seafood & meat counter looking for deals pretty much every time I go. Definitely not the best crab cake but for 5.99 I ain’t mad.
