Its like watching the same shitty movie over and over. We'll get beat by a random mid major that wants it more and has a plan in the NIT (if we make it) and the excuse makers will call it a good season.
What do you propose we do? If the optics around our program were bad for firing Stansbury and led to the Rick Ray hire, what would they be for firing a very well respected coach who?s pulling in top 15 classes (deservedly ranked that high or not) 3 years into rebuilding an absolute dumpster fire? We?re not some undoubtedly attractive program that can guaranteed go pluck a mid-major up and comer like some of y?all seem to think we are. We?re a program that?s historically pretty damn average with 3 ~5 year stretches of being good. Not great, just good. We?re a program with a 10,000 seat gym that hasn?t even been halfway full for a men?s game in what?s fastly approaching a decade.

Howland undoubtedly has some glaring problems, but I don?t see a viable alternative that has much of a better shot at bringing success than he does.

So what?s your solution? Based on what you?ve posted tonight, your bar seems to be that 11 point losses in Rupp are shitty losses, and that a trip to the NIT is unacceptable 3 years into rebuilding a program that was beyond a dumpster fire when he arrived.

ETA: anyone else that feels the same way this guy does feel free to chime in. I?m genuinely interested in where you folks think we should be as a program at the moment and who we should be bringing in to take us there.

Im saying that doing the same thing over and over is the defintion of insanity.

That is how we play. We play and lose the same way over and over. Regardless of who we play.

I hope you're right. I always thought of DJ as just an athletic guard that is good around the rim (I haven't watched him play, just seen highlights.)

I hope he's as aggressive at the rim next year as he is in high school. In the videos I've seen, he doesn't look to lay it up off the glass, he looks to embarrass you and your whole family line by way of dunk.

I don?t know a single time last night that we ran a set against the zone. Zone sets are generally more fluid, but Jesus Christ how many times can you watch the ball be passed around the arc before you call a man set with a ball screen. Good lord. We did well getting it into the short corner some against the 2-3 but didn?t do anything with it when we did. Run a man set. Force the players to screen and move, even if just once, to keep the d honest. For all of the improvements in talent (ie not running out guys like Colin Borchert), Howland has not impressed in-game.

Where are you getting those stats? He's shooting 30% from 3.

I've watched DJ play. He's not a 3 pt specialist like some are saying. Go read his scouting reports by non-MSU people and it'll tell you the same. He's super aggressive and crafty but still extremely raw. And he isn't strong on the defensive end right now. Not a difference maker in major college basketball next year.
