Darnold still guided them to 11-3 with a Pac 12 title. It probably didn't make a difference but less starters on the returning Pac 12 champion is better than Darnold improving. It isn't like he is Henig or anything, he is a projected 1st round pick at QB.

I'd have to think well over 7 for anybody with the intent of cashing in on it. It'd probably be worth 7 figures for a car salesman and I would definitely think it'd be worth 7 figures extra for an insurance salesman. And what does it do for your chances of getting speaking fees and/or a commentator gig?

Staying and maximizing his goodwill from the Stanford fanbase is probably just as good of if not a better bet than going after an extra year of NFL paycheck, especially when the school can buy you insurance against injury.

Maybe Bryce Love did not need the money that bad and figured the benefits of a Stanford education with elite connections and a chance at a Heisman were a good business decision?

Sam Darnold is a lot younger than many think. He turns 21 in June. The youngster played this year without a decent receiver and an offensive line not worth much regardless of injuries. Add to it a marginal skilled coaching staff collecting welfare off him. Darnold bit his tongue and showed remarkable maturity during the process. Darnold just took care of business and declared to the NFL. The NFL and draft specialist know this which is why he will be drafted high.
