I think Georgia is about to go all in on the new Amazon headquarters. We will see what happens there.

I'd be shocked if Amazon did NOT pick Atlanta. They really shouldn't, but they will. Logistically, Jackson has been mentioned as the best overall location, but we know that will never happen.

On criterion set by Amazon was a metro >1,000,000. Neither Jackson nor Huntsville, or Birmingham really, meet that criterion, but they all bid anyway (I think Jackson did). Even Scottsboro, AL, made a bid but of course didn't expect to get it. Not sure why they wasted the money.

Birmingham metro area is 1.1 million and growing.

I noticed before that you love to bag on Birmingham. I have lived in both Huntsville and Birmingham and know the difference. Most people do not understand what a metropolitan area is.

That being said Birmingham has zero shot at Amazon. I would guess Atlanta, then Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham. Austin would be the natural fit but I do not think the liberals want to be in Texas.

Raleigh-Durham and RTP would be a perfect fit for Amazon's Hq.

Part of Amazon's criteria is a transportation system. Atlanta is the only city in the south that has anything resembling mass transit and Marta isn't that great. Everyone is saying that Atlanta will have to expand it either to get the bid or it will be a requirement of accepting the bid that work will begin quickly. Atlanta has the biggest airport in the world so that probably helps.

Actually, the Memphis area would be a great geographical location for Amazon, but their reputation is too bad. Having FedEx and their 28K employees attracts a lot of distribution type companies. FedEx recently put their Ground Operations Center in Olive Branch.....not in Memphis. That was a statement. But, I agree that Atlanta will actually get it because Amazon will want a more liberal area like Atlanta for their employees.

***Many people don't realize that Memphis International is the busiest airport in the world between 12 - 4 AM.
