ETA... when the first game kicks off, will cbs, ESPN, fox use sporting news poll for its rankings? Nope
I?m beginning to think you are wrong. We will get a few positive articles about our returning depth, and possibly being a dark horse team in the west with a dark horse Heisman candidate, and then we will get snubbed by the polls. The majority just wont give us any benefit of the doubt.

We will be in their final polls. They will look at those and returning starters to determine preseason. We will come in at 22ish

There really is way too much estrogen in this thread.
It's a "way too early" poll by a guy who literally did no research (reading the writeups on each team will tell you that).
Like it or not, the outside perception is that our success was due to Dan Mullen, and he has left for Florida. We know that's not the case and won't be the case, but that's how it is going to be.
This team plays better when it has a chip on its shoulder, as we witnessed in the bowl game. We are going to be fine. And as someone else said, we will be ranked when the real polls start coming out, although we probably won't be ranked as high as we deserve to be.

If you?re looking at Sporting News, you may as well use Golf Digest?s college football rankings.

Agree. We'll see more "Way Too Early Top 25s" tonight & I'll post about every.single. one.
Why? Because 2018 is going to kick ass & it's never too early to start talking about it.

Stay on the media guys that short us. Q-king here got us moved up in the real polls by calling them out on Twitter or email

Last year I was going to buy either Athlon's or TSN's college football magazine just to give me some summer reading material. I looked at our page and projections in both before purchasing. Athlon's had us at 7-5 and projected to go to the Gator Bowl vs. VA Tech. TSN had at 5-7 and last in the West behind Ole Miss. I bough Athlon's. TSN's caters to the blue bloods and a cinderella or two. Put no stock in this. We won't be ranked as high as we should, or as many think on here because of Mullen's departure and a new coaching staff.

I think we'll be ranked about 19. Phil Steele will put out his magazine showing all the returning production, they'll see we finished around #20 in the final polls, and people will say Moorhead fixed PSU's offense in one year. We'll be the trendy pick and start the preseason around 18-22.

You’re my boy Blue! You’re right.
Phil Steele will have us high, which will open a lot of people’s eyes.

All I know is that if we play LSU early as usual, and are an underdog at any sportsbook this summer, I'm betting for the first time in a while.
This will be 2014 all over again.

Also when Todd McShay and Mel Kiper start hyping Simmons and Sweat on the DLine then it will also help. Simmons will be a 1st round with a possible top 10 pick and Sweat will probably also be a 1st round pick. When you have that kind of dominate Dline then the defense is using pretty damn good. It is amazing how good your coverage looks when QBs have 2 seconds in the pocket.
Also Moorhead is very highly regarded and he is returning one of the top dual threat QBs in the country. KT also showed the talent to win some games if Fitz has to come out. We lose very little from this year. Rankin didn't play half the year anyway and neither Gray or Myles was very much of an impact. Thomas at TE is probably the biggest loss.

Frazier and Stapleton are not similar, totally different player types.
Stapleton is like Ontario Harper, except Harper looked older than Stapleton when he was 12.

Don't understand this mentality and it's one that is very prevalent amongst state fans. I'd much rather us get recognized nationally and promote our brand in every poll. Kids want to come play for winners not perennial under dogs.
I like for our guys to play with a chip on their shoulder too, but there are lots of ways to motivate teams. I'm pretty sure if we were ranked in the top 20 no one in the locker room is going to be thinking "meh seems good enough to me...nothing left to prove." They all want to be #1 and have done enough to deserve a number by their name when the season starts.
It's all a moot point though because this obscure poll doesn't matter and we will be ranked (although not probably as high as we should be) in the polls that matter.

Pretty sure we play LSU later in the season than normal in 2018.
I think we finish this year 18th at worst with potential to move up into the 15-16 range. The committee will place us there based upon our season and bowl outcomes.
