    Possible power struggle at Florida re Chip Kelly

    Stricklin and Spurrier and Foley down the hall all at odds just like some on this board have been saying. Stricklin going to have to make his bones on this one.

    Spurrier was on some show and said the new coach is coaching his team now. Sounds like no Chip as far as the HBC is concerned
    Not only did Mississippi State embarrass LSU on this night. Davis Wade Stadium wrecked Tiger Stadium in music choice, atmosphere and, most of all, volume.

    When I'm 80 and deaf, it's not going to be all those Springsteen concerts or Queen at Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans on Halloween Night in 1978, it will be this game...............Glen Guilbeau--Sherveport Times

    I wonder if Strick knows that? I'd be a little pissed if I'm the "AD" and the Ol' Ball Coach Emeritus goes around saying "We already got 'em!" to the sports radio guys.

    UF, is a dysfunctional dumpster fire. Foley will never give up control and has enough bull gator backing to make it stick. I hope they stay a mess for the next 10 years.

    That is one of the many problems with the Florida job. The Ol' Ball Coach will spout whatever he wants about the athletic department, the football coach, the play calling, recruiting, players, etc and nobody can stop him. He is a much beloved legend.

    Then you have Foley as AD emeritus going behind the AD's back and undermining the football coach and the horrible cigar boys and fan base.

    Remember, they fired a coach who WON the division in his only two full years as head coach.

    Despite the resources, it is a horrible job.

    How freaking stupid do you have to be to have public disagreements about a coaching search during the coaching search? Anyone that has an opportunity to coach anywhere else and still takes the Florida job deserves everything that happens to them.

    And of course, Spurrier tweets out a response stating that he has not recommended anyone for the job and they trust what decision Scott Stricklin makes.

    The bottom line is this though, and I mentioned this on twitter. People underestimate what it means to Dan to be able to say that this Mississippi State program is HIS program. He doesn't answer to anyone. John Cohen asks him what he wants and makes it happen. Our boosters asks what he wants and makes it happen. There are no power struggles.

    At Florida, Tennessee....etc, the program will not be the head coach's program. It will be the booster's program or some popular alumunus (see Archie Manning) who directs everything at calls the shots.

    Some schools don't know how to do a proper search.

    Ole Miss announces publicly: "We are going to get a proven coach with head coaching experience".

    Ole Miss about 2 weeks later: "We have hired Ed Orgeron of USC, and he was our first choice".

    Everybody else: "Hmmmmm. Yeah right".

    Add LSU to that mix as well going by Alleva's act before O was hired.

    Right on! It's callled peace of mind and sometimes the money aint worth losing that over. Been there done that myself. Peace of mind is where its at. Dan's mark is all over this program and it appears to me he's proud as heck of his baby.

    Interesting that he put that twitter out about the time the news came out that there was a conflict....it's called damage control.

    You know what's funny. Scott Stricklin made the comment that Dan was a very direct person and they had some very direct conversations. Chip Kelly is cut from the same cloth as Dan Mullen. They are both part of that New Hampshire Mafia, and both Dan Mullen and Chip Kelly are about as blunt as you can get. It's one of the reasons Chip flamed out in the NFL. The players eventually tuned him out. It works in college though, just not so well for Gary Crowton (the other member of the NH Mafia).

    Yep. There's something to that old New England yankee independence and hard headedness.....I'm glad Dan has it. Shoud be fun those two going head to head if it turns out that way.

    I'm guessing the pecking order is:

    Foley- Kelly
    Spurrier- WTF? He's on the staff now?
    Stricklin- Geoff Collins

    We've done it too. But, the operative words are Larry Templeton.

    Larry Templeton: "When we name our coach, people are going to say 'How did they get that guy?'"

    About 2 weeks later: Sly Croom. "Who?"

    Wow! Either you guys don’t post much or I’m in the twilight zone. His hard-headedness isn’t one of his higher qualities... according to the majority on this board. His superiority complex and “cuteness” coming in a close 2nd & 3rd.

    Serious question... why is Croom the butt of all jokes but Felker seems to get a pass?

    * Croom: 21-38 overall - 10-30 SEC - 1 Bowl - Coach of the Year Award
    * Felker: 21-34 overall - 5- 28 SEC - 0 Bowls - 0 Awards

    Obviously they both sucked & were in over their heads! Really should make us appreciate that all people can complain about Mullen is his record when ranked vs ranked! Hell, Sly & Rockey barely had us ranked!!
