MSU fans have done this for far too long & made ourselves into a punching bag in the process.

He is concerned with the continued progress of our program. Doesn’t want another team that may tarnish Bama’s chances of a playoff. Last thing Bama fans want is a comoetively hard played game in Nov other than the Auburn game. Screw Paul

Finebaum and Sexton are both Tenn grads. They want Mullen there if they can't get Gruden

Mullen's earning potential is higher at MSU where he has crazy job security.

I would think that would matter more to Sexton

Paul was the one who defended Freeze until the bitter end.

We should all hope that UT lands Gruden at an extreme monetary cost. Not because I think we lose Dan if they don’t but because Gruden will be a sub par college coach, his style doesn’t fit into college. To be honest I’m not sure he was that great as an NFL coach, and I like the guy.

UT fans are some of the more obnoxious and arrogant fans around, and really shouldn’t be. They had some good years under Fulmer but really haven’t been relevant in nearly 20 years.

I'm sure the way that they see it is Gruden is a charasmatic coach and they are going to surround him with recruiters as assistants and let him pick his OC/DC. It's a similar approach to what Ole Miss really wanted to do with hiring Dungy so that they could use Dungy's NFL/Christian/African American face as a way to cover for their mass cheating. I think that's one reason why Ole Miss tried to sell Freeze's Christian persona so hard- "How could such a good Christian man cheat and get escorts for players?" Of course it didn't work because Ole Miss is way more jacked up than Tennessee.

The difference is they actually have a connection to Gruden whereas I guess Ole Miss was hoping that Archie could talk Dungy into going there.

I think the way that they see it Gruden is their only way back and they are going to do what Alabama did with Saban- throw so much money at him until he says yes. They probably got that idea after Alabama finally got tired of the Mike DuBose/Franchione/Mike Price/Shula hires. So, I guess in a way it is similar to Alabama in 2006- but the major difference is Alabama is a better recruiting area.

Break the bank to hire Gruden
Watch as he struggles to transition from NFL to NCAA
    Spend more to rotate assistants
    Repeat for a few years
Realize mistake but realize you're upside down in your coaching mortgage so you're stuck
Melt like a gallon of orange sherbet
    Peyton refuses
    Mullen to Tennessee.

Just saving Finebaum some work on tomorrow's concocted leaps of (il)logic.
