CFB Hot Seats: Thamel Pulls ZERO punches on OM

    https://sports.yahoo.com/college-foo...045047996.html

OLE MISS ? Is athletic director Ross Bjork still around to make the hire? He remained in lockstep with disgraced former coach Hugh Freeze when few sober people outside Oxford, Miss., believed in Freeze?s character. Bjork is one of the few athletic officials in America to not at least view Freeze?s anomalous recruiting success with any shred of skepticism. The revelation of Freeze?s ?pattern of misconduct,? which became public after he called a number tied to an escort on his school phone, is a damaging blow to Bjork?s career. Each of the slow drips about Freeze?s misdeeds in the news cycle is another reminder that Bjork was the only athletic administrator in the country believing in the Tooth Fairy. (And calling reporters, as Houston Nutt?s lawyer reminded us, to insist the Tooth Fairy existed). When you stick with a coach through one of this generation?s most significant NCAA investigations, he?d better not be calling escorts between thumps of his bible.

Whoever is making the hire will have to figure out if they want to keep interim Matt Luke until the NCAA sanctions come down. (That?s expected to be sometime next year). That would at least enable them to attract a coach who knows exactly what he?s getting into. Don?t be surprised if Luke is back for 2018 as the administration sorts itself out after an NCAA ruling universally expected to be a bludgeoning. Luke is well liked in Oxford and was considered a promising young coach before his sudden promotion. Colorado?s Mike MacIntyre is a good long-term name here, as he?s coached there and has had enough administrative struggles at Colorado to dive into the Dumpster fire in Oxford. One factor that can?t be overlooked ? the state of Mississippi can only issue four-year contracts. Administrators will need to get creative, as any sane or successful coach would ask for double that length.

Matt Luke will coach at OM for the next few years. Just weather the storm with Luke. There's no need in trying to put whip cream and a cherry on a turd and calling it a chocolate sundae.

NOT if we can get the NCAA to consider the 3rd NOA.... FLIM FLAM is going to bite some folks in the backside.....
Luke is just as dirty as hf. I would imagine that ML is sweating bullets. Maybe Kiffin will spill the beans....

True, the NCAA may force om to clean house. By January there could be a whole new AD, staff and football coaches. Just start over from scratch.

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Ole Miss campus police ask students to behave at future baseball games following a recent incident.
The university said students were reportedly throwing rocks at Georgia baseball players during last weekend's series.

That excerpt doesn't seem harsh. It just seems truthful. It's dead on. It's the truth. It only seems harsh to Ole Miss faithful who still have their head in the sand.

I've been wondering how much the 4-year contract limit might handcuff the TSUN admin when they try to get a new coach after sanctions come down.

This time last year, OM fans were calling for Luke to be fired. He had been named in the NOA. OL was a disaster and he couldn't recruit .. period.

Now .. he's a hero 'cause he HATES State. He get's it now..

How is it "sometime next year" that the sanctions will be announced? The COI meeting is in like 3 weeks. It won't take 4 whole months to issue the penalties.

All due respect..... saying "not IF WE CAN GET ncaa to consider 3rd NOA" implies that we/you can get them to. Which, in turn, sounds like the collusion they want to pin you. I don't think that's what you meant, but no escaping the fact it sounds like it. If you do have that kind of pull, you might not want advertise it.

Yep, 90% of OM message board posters were calling for Luke's head, led by 99% of NAFOOM-Tards
Not only did Mississippi State embarrass LSU on this night. Davis Wade Stadium wrecked Tiger Stadium in music choice, atmosphere and, most of all, volume.

We'll know by Oct or Nov, if I had to guess.

All I know is if you came up to me and said MSU will go to Peach Bowl and lose but then win the Sugar Bowl the next year while going 9-4 and then 10-3 respectively but in exchange MSU's football program would be decimated for 10 years there is no way I or any other MSU fan I know- and bear in mind I want to see MSU in the Sugar Bowl really badly- would do that deal. Possibly throw in a potential death penalty and the deal is even worse.

I would agree 100% except for the fact that he is in their NOA. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a show cause himself and has to leave by the end of the year.

Interestingly enough Ole Miss replaced Luke at OL coach with Jack Bicknell who used to be the head coach at La Tech. I could see a scenario where Luke and others get a show cause and they promote Bicknell to be the placeholder through probation. Bicknell is actually the most qualified to be a head coach on their staff currently.

NCAA does day on their website that it can take as much as 10 weeks for a ruling. That would put them in early December. Once they rule the NCAA also states it gives the school ONE hour to prepare a media response after being handed the findings. That's right ONE. And ole miss nor anyone else will know the results before that time as they are not allowed to communicate. At that time they have mere days to file an appeal.

My guess is Thamel is predicting the appeal and the amount of time to have it heard and ruled upon and added that to the 10 week wait for the ruling.

^^^^ over and over again. I'm guessing OM will have ML on their hands for the duration of the penalties. Either that or they'll hire someone who is way past retirement time to sit in for a few years and collect 4 years worth of 7 figures to push through, and that's only if the NCAA determines that ML is just as bad as FCHF.
