A lot of these teams get ranked by name recognition, no matter how bad USC or Texas does they seem to always be preseason top 25.
Just released
http://www.espn.com/college-football...nal-powers-top
1. Bama - Yup
2. Florida State - I guess. Not sure
3. Ohio State - Maybe. Can they score this year?
4. USC - Probably. I think Darnold is a little overrated with his windup arm action
5. Clemson - Maybe. Who is their QB?
6. Penn St - It's shamful that their program is already back to this level.
7. Oklahoma - Probably.
8. Washington - Maybe. I wasn't very impressed when I watched them last year.
9. Wisconsin - 3 Big 10 teams in the top 9? Uh, no
10. Oklahoma St - Bad conference. Record is always better than reality
11. Auburn Tigers - yup
12. LSU - Not convinced they are this good.
13. Michigan - Overrated this year. Still have no QB
14. Florida Gators - By default in SEC East
15. Stanford - Meh
16. Miami - Meh
17. Georgia - Meh, but default in SEC East
18. Louisville - Sirmon will screw this up real fast
19. Kansas State - Bad conference. Will have good record that is no indicative of team's ability
20. Texas - LOL. Why is Texas ranked here? How? What have they done?
21. South Florida - WAT?
22. Virginia Tech - WAT?
23. TCU - Bad conference. Record is propped up off bad schedule
24. Washington State - We'd beat them by 2 TDs
25. WV - Meh
Basically, the Big 12 is massively overrated here, with many other teams being ranked off playing a poor schedule. Thank God Notre Dame didn't sneak in.
IMO, on quality of team, no considering schedule, we would fit somewhere around 17.
A lot of these teams get ranked by name recognition, no matter how bad USC or Texas does they seem to always be preseason top 25.
I actually think Texas might have a decent team this year.
Georgia is the one that absolutely gets me. In the last 8 years they have only finished ranked 3 times and was preseason ranked every time.

2013- psr(4) final(NR)

2011- psr(18) final(19)
2010- psr(22) final(NR)
2009- psr(12) final(NR)
"until the next time you beat a frat guy unconscious, get stoned and think you're Peter Pan"
Some of them are legit. Some of them are base on number of viewer ships. Many of them because ESPN are full of dumb asses.
Washington State is going to win 9 games this year.
Moral of the preseason rankings: to me, once you get outside the top 5 or 7 teams, college football is very flat
Preseason ranking are meant to sell mags and get people excited across the nation. If they put 4 SEC teams in the top 10 and only one Big 12 team on the entire top 25 they'd lose the entire middle of America as viewers by the end of September. By doing this they can act like the first couple of games are more important than they are in their tv advertising.
Death penalty or bust!!!***
Ten of those will be replaced by week four or at the very least three or four of the ten will be barely hanging on the top 25.
ESPN going to be pumping that Bama-FSU game by making them 1 and 2.
My Top 25 looks like..
1. Clemson- "To be the man, you go to beat the man" Gonna be hard to beat them with that Defense
2. Bama- Just having a new Offense Coordinator knocks them off for me from having the top spot.
3. Ohio State- Urban Meyer is a genius and with Kevin Wilson as the OC they are getting in the playoffs.
4. FSU- I think they are more than capable to getting to the top spot.
5. Penn State- Man James Franklin is a top 10 coach easily.
6. USC- Sam Darnold is the best QB this year, but injuries injuries injuries.
7. Oklahoma- I think consistency with Lincoln Riley helps out.
8. Washington- Chris Petersen...why hasn't a big name like Notre Dame or Texas thrown the bank at him.
9. Georgia- Best backfield in the nation.
10. Michigan- Jim Harbaugh is building something good here.
11. Auburn
12. Wisconsin
13. Kansas State- "Win it for Bill"
14. Florida
15. Oklahoma State
16. Louisville
17. Stanford
18. Virginia Tech
19. LSU
20. Texas
21. Miami
22. WVU
23. Western Michigan...I think the keep rowing the boat with out PJ
24. TCU
25. South Florida
The entire system of ranking teams in college football is endlessly frustrating to me.
Thank God for the BCS & the Playoff system. Every year the preseason rankings are a snap shot into what college football looked like pre-2000.
Just an embarrassing overall system
Notice that Texas A&M is not in the top 25. I guess the Sumlin love is all gone now.
We received votes in the Coach's Poll basically ranking 39th.
If we win our first 2 games, we'll be ranked in the 27th area & with a win over LSU, who is ranked 12th, we'll likely be 20 or 21
