"With information and misinformation flourishing in today's athletic environment, the real story is how the university and the NCAA are working together," Boone said. "To our knowledge, this is the first time an institution and the NCAA have worked in this manner to assimilate unconfirmed information."

Boone told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper of Jackson in Wednesday's editino that one of the issues under review by the school and the NCAA involves a high school principal who allegedly was part of "some sort of civil suit involving grade changes and a student athlete we recruited." He would not reveal the name of the high school principal

Ole Miss could be heading for some trouble, too, involving a running back who may have received booster help in purchasing an SUV

    Sounds awfully familiar...

Roy was right, the NCAA was on their campus and had goods on them. The NCAA unfortunately for MSU and Alabama had a bigger hard on for them than the Bears. Ro snitched on his recruitment by Bama and Buckles on us. Both of us ended up on probation and they got a clean slate. Kind of like what's fixing to happen to those.
This was before the Goldie NCAA situation they had with the NCAA. Coverupcliffs leaving did not have dick to do with the 4 win season or "not going along with the network " as is often quoted here.
I'll quickly break it down. Tulane recruited Goldie and gave him new four runner with clear title. Tulane went undefeated and Bowden split for Clemson. Goldie's grades not good enough, sent to Kansas CC. Ole Miss assistant friend brings Goldie to OM along with 4 runner. Goldie had break out game at Fla. Four drunk tailgating lawyers decide to give him five grand a piece. Goldie take 20 grand and paid for 4 runner to Chevy place. Comes back with new Yukon with clear title. Word gets out. Cutt spaz. Get rid of that ride. 4 runner gone, actually comes back with Escalade. Sit out Cotton Bowl.
Next year enter The Khan and Boone "new and innovative way of dealing with NCAA" Coverupcliffe fired, blamed on not firing assistant coaches. Ask a Bear in the know and see what he tells you...
"They live in bizarro world...up is down...yes is no...hot is cold. Now they've determined that the NCAA sends a Letter of Inquiry AFTER an investigation is basically over. Uh...NO. Not how it works." Zv2, Bafoom Motard , 10/12/15

Yep, the NCAA could have sunk them back then but Ole Miss was teflon as long as Robert Khayat was Chancellor. Khayat had all the connections in the world to Indianapolis to make things just go away. In fact, Ole Miss even made statements back then about having a new, innovative process in working with the NCAA.
