An emotion free, common sense approach to NCAA ruling on the Plantation....

We all get caught up in the emotional aspect of the NCAA's eventual burning of the plantation, but it is rarely discussed is the non-maroon glasses aspect.

Looking at this thing from a common sense, logical approach, the NCAA absolutely has to hand down the most extreme and extensive penalties to OM in this case. The breadth and depth of the OM Cheating deserves nothing less, if the NCAA is going to maintain any inkling of credibility going forward. If they do not absolutely hammer OM, can any of you imagine the culture of football recruiting, or collegiate recruiting, going forward?

Universities will set up Brothels in the sorority houses (the ones in Oxford are probably already bordering on this title). Bag payments and loaner cars will be handed over in the plain sight of day. Head coaches and boosters will ride together on recruiting visits. The possibilities are limitless if the NCAA does not make a statement in this case.

IMHO, the future and fate of the NCAA hangs more in the balance with this decision than the fate of OM and their outdated university. In the end, we are looking at one of two inevitable outcomes.

1) OM gets hammered as they should and college football recruiting continues down the "bend but don't break" status quo.

2) The NCAA goes in with lube and takes is easy on OM. As result college football recruiting turns in to the Wild West and even more of a "Haves and Have Nots" game than it already is with the NCAA being a "British Royal Family" like figurehead association.

Just stock up on the popcorn, because it appears that this investigation is going to drag on well past the penalties coming in October.

I think when it comes down to it, that the NCAA is going to rule in a way to protect the student athletes. I think that the Nutt lawsuit couldn't have come at a better time because it put a focus on how the coaches and university lied to recruits to get their signatures. I think the way that the university has replied to the allegations by releasing information to expose LL will also come back to haunt them. I don't think they will get the DP, but I do think that they will give some extremely stiff penalties...strongest we've seen since SMU and I believe that there will be a 3rd NOA on this escort business. All in all, they will be the doormat for the next 7-10 years while MSU has the perfect opportunity to distance themselves and focus our attentions on the next tier of teams (bama, lsu, Georgia, florida)

I don't think there's any doubt about that. Ole Miss put wayyy too much stock in the idea that the SEC not only would be able to protect its members no matter the circumstances and that they are on the same level as Auburn in the SEC's eyes but also in their delusion that Ole Miss would get the same effort at protection as the conference blue bloods.

In reality, the SEC couldn't protect UM if it wanted to and doesn't really care to beyond making sure the punishment doesn't materially impact league revenue.

I'm not sure that OM being on probation will hurt overall SEC revenue, because significant scholly reductions will likely ensure that 7-8 other SEC teams will get 1 more SEC win; this will put a couple of bubble teams into the bowl that OM would have gotten.

Absolutely, just glad we had Bracky. If we hadn't we would be right in the middle of this. If we had tried to "compete" with the Cheaters up North in this rodeo it would have been ugly for us too.

Yes, Bracky deserves credit, but I don't think Mullen gets the credit he deserves for not running the Auburn/UNM/UcheaT type programs. He proved it during the $cam ordeal and fired Mirando as soon after being notified about Will Redmond.

Even in a wild west scenario I seriously doubt we would have gone to the lengths that Ole Miss has and is currently. With or without Bracky.

Typically when we have been investigated usually our attitude is "let's get this over with and pay our time" whereas Ole Miss it's "let's deny, lie, and sue."
