MSU Lands 41 On 2016-17 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll
June 28, 2017
STARKVILLE, Miss. ? A total of 41 Mississippi State student-athletes were named to the 2016-17 First-Year Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced Wednesday.
The 41 Bulldogs span 11 sports (baseball, women's basketball, women's cross country, football, men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's track and field, women's track and field and volleyball) and are part of a total 902 student-athletes named to the list across the 14 SEC schools.
Soccer led the way, placing an MSU-best seven on the list, with men's and women's track and field both not far behind with six. Women's cross country earned five spots, followed by baseball with four and both football and softball with three representatives.
The Bulldog men's and women's golf programs, along with MSU volleyball each contributed two to the list, while women's basketball rounded out State's first-year honorees with one.
The SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2016-17 academic calendar.
Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
On Monday, 66 Bulldogs spanning eight sports were named to the 2017 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll.

We have 85 players in their first year?

Some of the listed majors are pretty impressive too ... chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science.
If you do the math, the SEC schools have an average of 64 student athletes on the list, while we only have 41. The unknown is our total number of freshman athletes vs the SEC average. Looks like we're a little behind the norm though.

Hey tsun, when you do something that spans multiple sports this is what it should be for. Dumbasses.
