Need to use stainless steel or some other hard metal as opposed to something soft like aluminum. I once had trouble with squirrels in my attic and used some sheet aluminum to cover the hole. The squirrels chewed right through it. Changed to stainless and they couldn't get past that.
And a beaver has a much stronger bite and teeth than a squirrel, so they'd really need to protect those trees with some good stuff.
Get a fake owl, squirrel problem solved. We have a fig tree couldn't keep the squirrels away until I hung a plastic owl.
