Team Notes from Today's Boneyard
Steve isn't talking nvestigaycion today & is instead talking about the team.
Here are some highlights:
- Willie Gay & Kylin Hill will play
- Jamal Peters is currently the #3 corner
- Abram is currently the #3 safety.
- Montez Sweat is every thing we though he would be. He and Abram have earned the respect of the team
- Keith Mixon is the pick to click on offense according to people in the building
- Keytaon Thompson is popular on the team
-

So did he mention the ABram thing as a disappointing development? Does that mean Bryant and McLaurin are starting? Or JT Gray? Not sure how to take that.

I think you are reading too much into this. Just said Kylin would play.
Who knows what role. Special team, kick return, etc

Who are the top 2 corners? If Peters isn't one of them, that is good news.

He said nothing else. Just said Abram was considered the #3 safety right now.
I was most surprised by Peters being the #3 corner. I figured he would make a jump. Maybe he will

Abrams will play and play a lot
And don't be surprised if he is starting sooner than later .

Hard to believe it's almost football season again. Just a little over two months til the first game.
Everybody got their hotel reservations? I'll be staying in Columbus again at the Hyatt. A little off the beaten path but new and pretty nice.
-
Can we please get something out of the kick return game? Our special teams will make or break this season.

Let's see, how can we "motivate" Peters? Let's list him as #3 CB and see if he raises his game a little.

Gonna be hard to see Gay on anything but special teams this year. Hill the same. It takes a full year to learn how to pass block at State
Peters will start. He was #1 coming out of Spring- maybe the coaches are pissed at his work ethic the last couple months. Peters, Cleveland, Dantzler, and Durr will be the top 4 CB/s
Per a coach on our staff- Abrams is the best Safety we have. He will be the swing guy because he can play both Free and strong. Look for Bryant and Mac to start
Sweat may be one and done. He is that good. Green had a great Spring also. May see both of them on the field at the same time
Mixon is a weapon in the slot. He and Gray have to stay healthy. Far and away our best 2 WR's
Fitz is the big play- throw it deep guy. Athlete making Plus plays. Thompson is full-blooded QB. Thompson is an athletic West Coast type QB. He makes quick reads and gets rid of the ball quickly. Look for us to play him in more than just back-up time these next 2 years

What would be cool with KT would be to give him about 15 up tempo plays that he could just come in at the middle of the 2nd quarter and run a no huddle right up the field on the defense.
Death penalty or bust!!!***

Hmmmm.
Depends on the matchup. Problem is that Fitz could take it 80 yards on next play. Hard to take him out if winning the game is your number 1 priority.

And we only have 1 backup. Playing both QBs in the same game could be playing with fire

I don't understand your logic here

We run KT out for a play and he happens to get injured, we have 1 qb. I can see the reverse thought though that if fitz gets hurt at least KT has a little experience. I just assume stick with 1 qb until a game is out of hand then bring in KT.

Yeah, but the play you leave Fitz in for that Key would've played, wouldn't Fitz have just a likely a chance to get hurt?
By not playing Key, your raising the chance Fitz gets hurt and by not playing Fitz, you raise the odds that Key gets hurt.
Key and Fitz are just as likely to get hurt per play as the other, so logically there is no difference in the chance of losing one of our 2 QBs. The only way we can lower risk is by playing a 3rd QB or taking Fitz out if he's banged up or tired, at which times he is more likely to get hurt than Key.

Of course it all depends on the flow of the game. However there really never is a good time to sub in a QB other than in a blowout win or loss.
