    Tommy Tubberville

Has decided to run for governor of Alabama. I suppose he's not planning on coaching any more.

Lord help us. Don't know yet about Charles Barkley ....

    Interesting.......

I do wonder if Tommy will be capable of winning when he's basically forfeiting the Alabama fan vote and that's like 60% of state?

Would any Elitedawgs vote for Billy Brewer or Hugh Freeze for governor even if he was the preferred party candidate?

As polarizing as he was, no chance he wins. It would be like Dan running for MS governor. You know there is zero votes from UNM for Dan.

Not quite a fair comparison. Tubs' bulb shines quite a bit brighter than either Brewer or Freeze.

Those guys could be the only ones running and I wouldn't vote for either one.

His first and only action as new governor will be to shut down Alabama football. Harvey shouldn't of killed those trees

But you wouldn't vote for another party, either. So his fight would be in the primary, but what % of the population votes, like 35%?

If I lived in Mississippi, I wouldn't vote for either of those, but it would have nothing to do with them coaching at Ole Miss. I wouldn't vote for anybody whose claim to fame is coaching college football or any other sport. Unless, of course, they independently exhibited the ability to run the state. For the record, I wouldn't vote for Dan or Howland either, for the same reasons.

I don't think Tubberville has a chance, but I'd like to think it's not because of his college affiliation. It's because he'd be a terrible governor. Actually, he probaby couldn't care less about Auburn. It was just a well-paying job with no allegiance attached.

Tuberville has ZERO chance to win the Governership of AL
He knows he's done with coaching unless he's an asst coach at Alex City HS. He lives on Lake Martin which is dead during the offseason so he's probably bored already. Although Willow Point is a great golf course, not sure he is content playing everyday with the Sr's. - and I'm not talking the 50 yr old Sr golfers.

I don't know the situation with TT. I have no idea what his political connections or activities may be.

But if there's anything I learned in the last couple of years, it's that I should never, ever say that anyone has *zero* chance to win an election.

Ok folks. Y'all don't seem to understand how Alabama politics works. Let me break down the governors race for y'all.

First off, many candidates are simply proxies for other powerful entities in the state. Our current governor is a puppet for Paul Bryant Jr. I don't know yet who the next Paul Jr. Candadate is. It looks like there may be more than one for now. Tubberville is the puppet of the Bob Riley machine and will also have the support of the Mike Hubbard machine. Twinkle is owned by Alabama Power, and Roy Moore is just a lunatic who panders to the religious zealots.

Notice how I didn't list any democrats. That's because due to internal politics and backbiting, Alabama basically doesn't have a democrat party. They can only win in districts gerrymandered for them. There is ZERO chance a democrat becomes governor of Alabama. Most people who vote in Alabama will vote straight party republican in the general election.

So here in Alabama we have a primary system. All the republican candidates will be voted on. Simply because there are so damn many of them, nobody will get over 50% of the vote. So there will be a runoff between the top two. Turnout for runoffs is usually much lower. So it will be whoever's machine can gin up the most people.

There are IMO enough rock eaters in Alabama that will come vote for Roy Moore that he will be in the runoff. If Tubberville gets there, nobody will care about Alabama or Auburn. They will turn out for him just to keep Moore out of office.

Personally I am bracing myself to deal with governor Twinkle.

If their politics aligned with mine, I could vote for Bianco or Cutcliffe. I'm not sure I could vote for Kennedy or Freeze unless the opposing candidate was just really terrible.

As other people have noted, that's a terrible comparison. The Ole Miss connection would not be disqualifying for Bianco, Kennedy, the Ogre, Cutcliffe, Tubberville, or Nutt. Obviously the Ogre and Kennedy are disqualified for other reasons and I think Cutcliff is too nice/mellow to be effective, and Nutt doesn't seem like he would be an effective executive, but Bianco and Tubberville, without knowing anything about their politics, I would say have shown enough skill as an executive that it's not laughable to think of them transitioning into government (although Mississippi actually has a decent bench right now between Hoseman and Reeves, I suspect they'd have as impressive resumes as a lot of contenders for statewide races). I'd say the same thing about Saban, Mullen, and Cohen.

None of these coaches seem like obvious fits for politics (I guess the intense bastard is getting the best training now), but all of them are clearly smart and are talented executives.
