Let's talk COI committee

This is the most critical piece of the OM NCAA issue. To this point, all we've heard from are the investigative arm and the NOA addendum which would essentially be the prosecutor in a court of law. As any defensive lawyer would tell you, the jury is who decides a case. Jury selection could not be more important to the outcome being that they will be who levies any sanctions. Even OJ got off with the right jury.

First thing worth noting is the list of members of the COI committee. Take a peak and note what you see.

When you look at that list, you see 2 SEC connections. First and foremost, Greg Sankey as the chair. It has been reported by OM media that he is weak and let this deal get much bigger than Slive would have. It should also be noted that he would not be able to act in this case in any capacity due to conflict of interest. He will recuse himself and be a non-factor in the decision as to sanctions.

The 2nd SEC connection is Michael Adams. Now we need to understand the background there. The original driver of OM's then alleged NCAA misgivings was UGA in relation to the Laremy Tunsil recruitment. Now it gets interesting in regard to Adams. After getting the NCAA gig, he left to be president at Pepperdine. OM fans collectively exhaled. Well, he's back and isn't working for any university and has no official conflicts of interest. Should he get on the committee that decides OM's fate, watch out.

Now let's circle back to Sankey recusing himself. That would leave any chair/oversight duties to Eleanor W. Meyers, Associate Professor of Law Emerita/Interim Associate Dean of Students at the University of Temple. It gets more interesting. This is the first paragraph of her official Temple bio. It appears her life mission is personal professional responsibility...

Professor Eleanor Myers joined the full-time faculty at Temple Law School as an Associate Professor of Law. She specializes in Professional Responsibility and also teaches in the Business curriculum, including Introduction to Business Organizations, Corporations, and Contracts. In addition, she assisted in the development of the award-winning Integrated Transactional Program and has primary responsibility for the Professional Responsibility component of that course. She also assisted in the development of the first year Introduction to Transactional Skills class. In 2001 she won the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. She publishes in the area of Professional Responsibility and served as the Associate Reporter on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals Task Force on the Selection of Class Counsel.

The last 2 things you need to note from the COI committee is (1) A bunch of people not connected to southern football. They probably have SEC fatigue and don't understand the recruiting culture in the south. To a SEC fan, paying players is the norm. To a group like this, it's surprising, shocking, & horrifying. (2) That is massive collection of lawyers/legal minds. You can tell that the restructuring after the Miami embarrassment was done in an effort to do things in a way with legal backing being of the utmost importance.
