How does the Bearshart network work??
Do the boosters simple give away their money or do they make the payments appear to be donations for tax writeoff proposes. Are they laundering money through businesses for the same tax benefits? Just trying to figure out how a group of boosters would give away at least a Mil a year to football players who can't even finish close to what winning the west or even ahead of their in state rival. Are they really that f*cking stupid and eat up with the little man syndrome that they'd throw away enormous amounts of money.
That 2013 class cost them upwards of $2.5 mil and the only thing they'll have to show for it is a half decade on NCAA life support at minimum.

They got exactly what they paid for. They were able to beat their chests for a couple of seasons about how high their recruiting class was and they got a couple of wins over Bama.

Since Musburger is retiring wonder who ESPN will designate to mention the 2013 class and "beautiful campus" every 36 seconds.

And don't forget that Herbstreit will be more than happy to carry the torch.

I think a lot of the participation in the process is more to gain access and recognition from the AD and coaches.
To be known as a "playya".

It really doesn't "work". See 2nd and 3rd (pending) letters from the NCAA. C34 called this back in the day, it's a bunch of a lower-level guys trying to get more recognition in Oxford for the most part.

I agree. OM culture is all about perception and being recognized both personally and as an institution (which is supposed to reflect highly on the individual who attended said institution).
Well Bears, (I know you are here) you are about to be recognized as the most blatant cheaters in the history of college football. Congrats!

Everything I've read about "bagmen" says the real "playas" are always in the background and never recognized.

That's exactly right. Most bagmen don't want the fame they want the access. To be seen not heard.

Could be in place of tax write-offs that are traceable, they get perqs from the university, such as club or suite seats at no further charge, to all sports, not just football. There's lots of ways that they can be rewarded other than tax write-offs.

Perhaps it's not coordinated. Perhaps boosters are all rogue, and coaches just sit by and let it happen. Freeze decided to take advantage of whatever contact with players possible.

Sorry, I don't believe that. The Forward Rebels campaign earlier in the decade set the wheels in motion to rid the university of their current chancellor so that the network could control the new regime.
Everything the network does is controlled with the coaches being fully aware of what's going on. That said, it will be interesting to see which former coach(es) roll over to secure their future careers, and what stories they tell or confirm.

It's very organized. The biggest thing for them was that they realized that not just anyone could be a member of the Network. They had to find a way to keep numbers down while also keeping the monitory numbers up. Look no further than the Inn at Ole Miss and their sponsorship program. It knocks two, or three birds out with one stone.
The Inn is a "separate entity" but ran by elected Ole Miss officials. In 2008 they created a "sponsorship program" where a booster gave a one time gift of $65,000-$500,000 to the Inn at Ole Miss. In return, the booster who gifted the Inn would have first dibs on a room of their choice on big weekends.
Now, you have created an entry fee for the Network, while keeping the low-dollar, loud mouthed boosters out. No one in their right mind would gift 6 digits so that they could have first dibs on a hotel room. The gift is clearly an entry fee into the network. Once you're in, the high dollar guys claim the suites on the top few floors, and use them as network meeting rooms, as well as a place to stay for recruits and their families, and also a place for boosters, recruits and their families, and coaches to meet without any chance of someone bothering them.
In allegation 6.b. "Kiffin arranged for (REDACTED) and (REDACTED) to receive two nights' hotel lodging at the Inn at Ole Miss during (REDACTED)'s official paid visit." In allegation 8.j. "Additionally, on January 18 and 19, 2013, (Coach Maurice) Harris arranged for (REDACTED) and (REDACTED) to stay overnight at no cost in the hotel room at The Inn at Ole Miss that the institution provided to (REDACTED), who was on campus for his official paid visit." We have all, or most of us, also heard the story about a certain 5* recruit in the 2013 class being brought to the Tuohy's room at the Inn by none other than Hugh Freeze himself. "Have you ever seen the Blindside? Well here is the family, they are just soooo generous. I'm gonna let you talk to them for a little while, enjoy your visit!".
It's no coincidence that the Tuohy's, Mannings, and Walter Hughes were/are Inn "sponsors".

Surely not Walter Hughes? He's such a big FCA facilitator, and not really a "UNM booster."

This is quality and what I was looking for. I didnt know how such large sums of money could be thrown around by many individuals without someone taking notice (Feds, IRS, someone). All movements $10k or more are reported and some movements between less than 10k are reported. Recently happened to me while I Refinanced and consolidated some loans at the same time. The plan was to break monetary movements up to keep under $9999 and the head of bank said that "rule" was no longer necessarily true. They can report any large sums of money at their discretion under the $10k mark. There's no way those dipshits have gone unnoticed by the federal govt unless they have some banks in on the network as well. Do they have any prominent bank owning alumni. If so, we may have located the central body of #TheNetwork. And this thing could get extremely hairy if they being a lawsuit and take this to trial. Not reporting these will get some folks plenty of time in a federal pound you in the ass prison.
