If the rankings are since 1980 Tennessee needs to replace LSU in the top line.

I think it goes back to the early 60s, and maybe even farther back, when OM had a powerful football program and we sort of were a basketball power in the SEC. Then along came the legendary Archie ... nuff said there. And even though Peyton didn't go to OM, he still gave positive national attention to OM. And then there was Eli. Then we have the past few years with those outstanding recruiting classes ... but the shine is beginning to dull with all the reports of cheating.
And Ole Miss works hard on their perception. We know it's fake but many don't. Meanwhile, we have a coach (apparently) that choose to stay and coach Mississippi State instead of coaching Oregon but nobody knows about that. That's great ammo to get out there to change the perception but we simply don't use it to our advantage.

This is since 1980 right? Vandy and UK are the only bottom feeders. Missouri has been better than aTm over that timespan and much better than USCe. Again since 1980 Tennessee definitely deserves to be on the top line as does Georgia who you left out completely. We could argue this all day and get nowhere though.
