Almost 100 true freshmen played in week 1; where did MSU rank in the league?

Almost SEC 100 true freshmen played in Week 1
In the first week of 2016 season, a lot of true freshmen in the Southeastern Conference got their first taste of college football.

We asked out SEC team site publishers to track how many of their school's true freshmen saw the field last weekend, and according to their math 92 true freshman played for SEC teams in Week 1.

While some of those games weren't as high on the national radar as others, many of the games were good matchups that were close - not blowouts. That make the large number all the more surprising.

Here is a look at how many true freshmen played for each team in the conference in Week 1.

Mississippi State played the fewest amount of true freshman in the league - with just two newcomers seeing action.

We only had 11 available true freshmen. 3 of those are O-linemen. We played 2 of the 8. We didn't sign many guys that were ready to play. Simmons will play this week.

And water is wet. Biggest factor in our recruiting, or lack there of, since Shorts Coach has been here.

Dumb conversation. In 2015, MSU played as many true freshmen as any team in the SEC.

Team structures change from year to year, &, if people don't realize that, they are idiots.

Additionally, our best true freshman was suspended for the game last weekend & will play this weekend.

The conversation is stupid & shallow. It's an extremely short sighted conversation.

My guess is if you look over about a 5 year period, most all SEC teams average playing about the same amount of true freshmen, with Alabama & LSU likely leading the way because they recruit more polished, advanced players & have more juniors leave early & thus opening up roles for freshmen.

So there are 125 teams that played 100 and two of the 100 was from us. I think that is pretty good.

"92 true freshman played for SEC teams in Week 1" That's 14 teams, not 125.

That stat is bullshit. The question is about whether younger guys are given a chance to develop, not about whether they see the field for at least one snap a game. And Mullen's problem, if he has one, is not about playing true freshmen. It's about playing RS freshmen like A. Williams when he is behind a hard working upper classman who has less ability. It's about sticking with D. Williams when he is not an SEC QB, when there are two younger guys who are potentially SEC qbs. We'll see. Maybe A. Williams is a terrible teammate and we won't find out about it until later, and maybe neither Tiano nor Fitzgerald are SEC qbs either.

This is why the SEC lost 7 games. Not good if you are having to play freshman.
