The new Shimano NASCI looks like a solid new offering for inshore fishing and a good price point.

I've done it a couple of times. Learning the technique is easy if you have any motor skills at all. Actually catching the fish, not so much. I always end up going back to standard rod and reels. Part of it is where I fish in North Georgia - too remote and woody to fly fish.
I hear tales of people here on the coast fly fishing for triple tail. That may be the ultimate fishing challenge.

Check out tenkara rods - basically a fly rod without the reel. It has been gaining popularity for several years now.

Y'all just hit me up when you want to go... I went on the 4th to Sipsey fork at the Smith Lake dam. look it up. Apparently they put in about 3000 a month 8-10" but there are some holdovers. My first one was around 3 lbs, and got off right at the rocks.. You can either climb down the rocks below the dam and fish like ultralight, or spinning gear, 6lb test, rooster tails, etc. or tight line powerbait, salmon eggs, etc, or you can move down at one of the other 7 access points and wade in ankle to waist deep water and fly fish. That day the powerbait worked best. You'd have several followers on the roostertails on nearly every cast, but they just wouldn't take it.
AND ITS FREE!!!
