Weekend Cooking & Drinking Thread
Having a cookout for some family Saturday. Besides that, I have no idea what I'll do.
-
So you're not skipping off to the coast or LA to go fish? Surprised. I enjoy your cooking posts though I'm always also very extremely jealous.

It has been a rough and hot week at work so I decided on making a cool relaxing drink today. May not be considered very manly but it sure tasted good. Malibu coconut rum and pineapple juice. Onto the white cans now

Not this weekend. I've been out of town 2 straight and 3 of last 4 weekends. Needed to stay around this weekend ha

Did some NY Strip and lamb kabobs tonight. I heavily salted these and grilled them directly over the coals on my Weber Go-Anywhere grill. If you like a Brazilian steakhouse, that is exactly how these taste. Also, we need to start eating more lamb...damn that is good stuff.
After dinner, I put my kayak in the Flint River and did some flyfishing for bluegill with my 1 wt ultralight flyrod. Caught about 30, with five keepers. Will hit it again tomorrow morning to fill out the mess, but damn that is a good time.

Heh, yea, it's been a tough few months here with the new baby gal combined with lots of travel for work. I feel like I am just starting to get my feet under me again the last few weeks. Got some catching up to do.

Kayak fishing in S LA this weekend. Fishing was pathetic in Leeville this afternoon, so we are going to head elsewhere in the morning. The seafood platter and beer at the Leeville seafood restaurant didn't disappoint though.

Boudreaux's? leeville seafood is always a solid choice. If it makes you feel any better I got up early and threw topwater for bass and got nothing, and then went to work for a bit...

Native Ultimate 12, probably a 2008 model.

Simple kind of night. Having the fam over

Great minds right Beast?
101 today - kept it quick and simple after working around the house all day. Brats, fries and a perfect cantaloupe.

Yep, staying at Boudreaux's. I don't know if we will ever fish out of here again, but we may stay here just for the location. Went north this morning and found 5 slot reds, a perfect size puppy drum and 10-15 rat reds. My BIL went to work on cleaning fish before I could snap a pic of them all, but here is my contribution (I got whipped today on the slots).

Very nice work. How was fishing from the new sled?

Being able to stand & fish is a game changer. We could only fish topwater today, due to the grass. Being able to see them so well was great.

Saturday I took the family fishing at Bayou Caddy. All my friends have been smoking the flounder there. We only caught 3 flounder and about 10 other keeper trout/croaker/white trout.
I bought along 2 crab nets that saved the day. Got 31 blue crabs.

I am stuffing the flounder tonight. Will post pics.

Lit the fire at 6:30. Butt on the Weber at 7:00. Wimbledon on at 9:00. About to start cooking brunch - queso, chorizo, siracha, and green onion omelet.

Fried up some of the redbellies and the catfish squealer from the weekend kayak trips. A couple takeaways: 1) nothing beats fresh fried fish 2) We dont eat enough of them whole fried.
Taking my dad out on the Flint kayak fly fishing next weekend, really looking forward to that.
