Be fair to our program, Coach

Dan, you throw your hat in the ring to see what is available every year and it really does hurt recruiting. People ask why other SEC schools can recruit nationally and we do not. The answer is that you cannot recruit nationally if there is no sense that you are committed to the program. So we recruit Mississippi well because there are a lot of people here supporting our cause, but once we get out of our immediate sphere of influence we can no longer recruit talent that other major programs want.

And that is another thing; we are a major program. Our budget is approaching $100 million, making us a top 30 program financially. What other coach from a major program has consistently been "open" to talking about leaving for another job? No other SEC coach has. Any coach that did would hurt that school's recruiting also.

I get it; coaches change jobs. However, looking around every year sends the wrong signal to recruits, to the media and to fans.

Please Dan, make a commitment to MSU - and to yourself. You cannot do the best job possible here without a higher level of commitment.

Dan apparently needs his ego fed more than he wants top recruiting classes. Look, there is no doubt that we have not recruited to a level to play with the national elite big boys, especially at certain positions like OL and S. That becomes apparent when we play teams that DO have elite talent at most positions. Hard to draw a direct impact on shopping your name every year for other jobs and recruiting rankings but no doubt there is some connection. And it DOES have more impact on out of state guys than in state. That's why last night I used the example in another thread of what kind of impact do these reports of Mullen trying to "get out of Starkville" have on top regional recruits like a Derrick Brown. We are fighting an uphill battle on these kind of guys anyway given we don't have a #Network and then you throw on top of that a perceived lack of commitment from your HC. Not helpful at all.
