    Anyone's dog taken steroid medication?

I have a 7 year old must that is just under 20lbs. She never really ate that much food and never ate right when you gave her food. She just eats when she's hungry. Since she's getting older I decided to get a better dog food. I got her the blue buffalo wild cuts line. It's expensive but she's small and doesn't each much so I went for it. Same day I bought her the new food we were playing fetch in the back yard and she hurt her back. Pulled a muscle or something. The vet gave us a steroid medication she's been taking for the week. She is now eating as much food as we'll put in front of her. I'm wondering if its the new food and she really likes it or is it the steroids giving her an ungodly case of the munchies?

It is likely the steroid. My parents just recently found out that their doberman has cancer. The doc put her on a steroid and she immediately started eating way more than usual. She's already gained several lbs in the last few weeks. On the bright side, it makes her feel much better for the time she has left.

Sorry to hear that speck. Losing pets sucks. As you said, anything to improve their quality of life at the end is worth it.

It could be both.. The vet put one of ours on prednisone for about a week and also antibiotics. He had to eat cottage cheese too, to help with upset stomach. About the same time we had just switched to Diamond Naturals beef meal and rice, and they all started eating like crazy. They were on BB. Cats as well. My wife was told by a rescue owner where we got the last dog that there was an independent website that rates dog foods called dog food advisor ( I think they have a FB page too) They rate each kind / brand. It is strange the amount of variance of ratings even within brands. For example a BB wild cuts rated lower than a BB weight control formula, etc. Then a wide variance in the brands. We found a kind/brand at tractor supply co. that is cheaper than the BB they were on but has a lot better nutritional value. Check it out...

Do you do the cheese trick to give medicine?
