It was but only one problem here. Football is a development sport and always has been. Very few guys show up ready to play Power 5 ball at a high level on Day 1 - knowledge of the game, strength, and bodies just typically aren't ready. Hoops is another matter - elite high school guys are typically ready by 16 or 17 and actually do play with pro-level guys from that age. If you don't show up ready at 18 years old, good chance is you won't ever be ready. Sure you can improve conditioning and hit the weight room, but court skills are much closer at that age. Just how it is... you 17'in stupid ass Bears.

It is really good stuff. I have to give them credit where it's due. a few small points:

We have been to the final 16, at least, 3 times
AK has never gotten them to the sweet 16, but they have been once. So there's that.

OM has been number one according to some poll nobody ever heard of in football. I think its the dunkenheins poll.
Mullen got us to the number 1 spot in the only legitimate poll ever for 5 weeks.
OM has only been nationally relevant if you are over the age of 42 and hasn't won one of those championships unless you are over the age of 55 if you even count them.

As long as you now have seen your 19th birthday you have lived to see our final 4.
Jesus, Moses, nay Adam have seen OM in a final 4

If you aren't legal to vote yet you were alive to see State play in Atlanta for the SEC championship in football
Jesus, Moses, and Adam are also good sources for the last time OM played for the west in football

If you are still 2 years away from 1st grade you were alive to know we played for a national championship in Baseball.
Jesus, Moses and Adam will also have to tell you about the time OM did.

I agree totally. Basketball is a sport where kids can come in ready to play on day one. Not only play, but be physically gifted enough to be the best at their respective position. Not the case with football.

Exhibit A -- LSU's Simmons is preseason sec player of the year as a true freshman

Great, that post would really be funny if Howland was a recently removed HS football coach with a couple years of small college football under his belt and NOT a coach of the year CB coach at UCLA.......

So, this what i took from the whole thread....
    - They can be "all high and mighty" when it comes to stars as long as they are getting them.
    - We cant count stars.
    - They are saying "we are under investigation now"
    - They arent.
    - Malik is not "hurt" we are holding him out of games until we are done invsetigated
    - The whole above stated sure sounds alot like I have heard this before from somewhere?
    - We cant have a COA from one of the biggest and most relevant basketball schools ever come into Starkville and recruit well, VERY WELL!!
    - They develop talent.
    - They can say they have finished higher than us in basketball in the SEC last yr.
    - We cant say we have finished higher than them in football for the last 5-6 yrs cause that's irrelevant?
    - Ole Piss Sucks and hates us.
    - F@#k NM

    Miss anything?

It's gotta leave em salty knowing that our Top 5 class is in the hands of a coach with proven success in the form of Final 4's....while their Top 5 class was placed in the hands of an ex-girls high school hoops coach with a good Sunbelt season under his belt.

Had one of their guys on Twitter say it was "ironic" how State fans were pumped about recruiting and Indiana fans were saying things about us cheating. I asked him how it was ironic, let's look at the facts...

Howland has a history of success on the court and recruiting.....Freeze did not.

Malik Newman was a home grown product whose Dad played for our program....Knemdiche/Treadwell/Tunsil were not.

Not even Malik was listed the #1 prospect at his position....Knem/Tunsil/Treadwell were.

MSU has a history of basketball success, with SEC Championships and even a Final Four since 1996....Ole Miss has no football success of any relevance since what, the 60's?

I could go on and on, but to try & compare the two situations and calling our class "ironic", is pure troll. Apples and oranges. Truth is, they know that we are pretty likely to actually turn our class into something special....whereas they could not.

No. Yhey are saying all of our arguments in basketball vs them are the sane as theirs in fiootball in a snarky way.

And its true if you ignore iur recent success in basketball, football and baseball. And only consider their lower aconplishments in those sports before1996.

But if you can do that, which means you are 19 years old without internet access, yea, great point plantation owners, great point.

Nice try but Howland has a track record for getting guys to the NBA. Bucky had a track record in women's volleyball or something like that. Apples and oranges...
