Beating the dead horse (RB)

After a dead horse is beaten, what's the next level? That's where we are with this, but I don't think we are likely to see a lot change this year with our RB situation baring injuries. This is based my observations with Mullen's depth charts over the years.

I'm concerned, however, about our RB situation going into next season. I am very afraid that our RB depth chart will look the same next year.

Holloway and Shump do not suck as RBs, they just aren't every down SEC caliber backs. Both are highly skilled in certain areas, and should be used in ways that maximize their strengths.

2 questions:
If the depth chart doesn't change, could we end up pissing the freshmen off to where 1 of them transfers? You know Lee has to know he's the better runner over Shump and Holloway.

What are the realistic chances that we actually see Holloway and Shump moved to positions they are more suited for (next season)? Whether that's Shump to defense, or relegated to passing downs, and Holloway a change of pace back that offers some good speed off the edges/around the corners.

It's not going to change. We've seen enough of Mullen to know that by now. We just have to live with it. He wants to run his offense, and run it his way, logic be damned. It's starting to look like Croom's offense, except Mullen's actually works with the right personnel, plus Mullen knows how to properly run a program. Mullen was a lot more loose back in 2009 because he knew he HAD to be, with his personnel. Now, he thinks he has all the pieces in place so he thinks he can X and O us to wins without any common sense. It's a sign of overwork.....because we know he's a good coach and hard worker. He needs to delegate the offense to some extent.

Let's face it, by SEC STANDARDS (and that is what we play in), Shump and Holloway are below average. You can only get by with those kind of backs if you have a really good run blocking OL and we don't have that either. Holloway can be used in certain situations but I think everyone agrees that it doesn't make sense to try and make him an every down back. Guess we are going to find out how truly hard-headed and stubborn Mullen is on this one.
