Well he won't get much of that from Dan on kicking technique.

I don't know, and not sure some of our guys haven't gone in the past but I can't recall either way truthfully. But I've been an advocate of them going to those coaches for a long time. Especially the ones who have a great track record of developing guys to the NFL level.

1 article says he had to make a dual-sport contract with his HS saying he could only practice w/ the football team 30 min. a day before going to soccer practice, so he's gotta be pretty raw technique-wise.
I wonder if having only 1 yr of HS football will help the transition from kicking off the tee to kicking off the ground, since he's not as used to kicking off the tee as more experienced kickers coming out of HS.

He'll fit right in.

Just look at his videos on YouTube. I never saw him kick off a tee in any of them and he was money every time.

No I didn't and wouldn't expect them to. Just passing along what I watched of him on the videos.

I suspect he kicked for our coaches when he was here a few weeks ago. So they would have seen him live and on grass.

I am all for the kid...would be great to have a kicker who is trustworthy, especially as a walkon. Clearly he has the ability, i am just concerned about consistancy and ability to handle the pressure since we have no proof of that. I would have liked the video to include his stats.
Nothing can prove his ability to handle the pressure until he is put into a situation, but i am glad to know the coaches have seen him kick on grass and have witnessed his consistancy.

That's the thing with kickers tho you're never going to know how they're going to react until in that position. Then it may be too late. You can't simulate that pressure in practice it only comes from doing it in front of 80k screaming opposing fans.

I believe that Logan Cooke (sp?) attended one of these camps before he arrived at State...http://kohlskicking.com/recruiting/C...n/commits/6793

If anything, Mullen's teaching of "technique" will make him worse. Just leave him the hell alone and let him kick, Dan.
It's the roller coaster of hope that this program keeps us on that makes it hell being a State fan. - CadaverDawg, 10/15/22

Well that explains why he didn't want to go to Ole Miss.

I think our issues with recruiting kickers is for whatever reason we've recruited guys that are really punter prospects as our top guys while relying on walk-ons for the PK job.
Let's be honest- Bell and Cooke have been pretty good punters and KO guys for us. Sobiesk was good last year- but he had no range. We pretty much had to be in the red zone to be in FG range. Otherwise we were going for it on fourth down when we were inside the other teams 40.
Westin Graves to me is Sobiesk 2.0.

And speaking of kickers, has anyone heard anything else about that guy from Hattiesburg that went to Presbyterian Christian that was playing at Tennessee that was supposed to be looking at transferring to MSU?

I swear, as loaded as our team is, if we lose a game this year because of missed short field goals, Im going to lose my mind.
Not sure I'm too excited yet. Looks like his team was 3-7, with little action beyond XP's. Tough to tell much more since the team did not submit any stat's. Also, have my doubts on the distance. Everyone jokes about Sobiesk's distance being limited at 40 yards, yet I've watched kicking camp videos of him hitting from beyond 60. Does that translate to this kid being limited to 25 yards in a game situation?
