This Week in GA Commits 9.11.15

Had a busy work week, and not a lot of research time - so this is thanks to my friends at the Marietta Daily Journal

    Game: McEachern (2-0) at Peachtree Ridge (0-2), 7:30 p.m.

Last year: McEachern 35, Peachtree Ridge 21

    All-time series: Series tied 1-1

Prediction: McEachern 28, Peachtree Ridge 20

McEachern's offense was dealt a blow early in its game against Buford last week when senior wide receiver Tyler Smith left the game with an apparent knee injury.

Fortunately, the Indians went on to beat Buford 37-14 without Smith on the field, ending the Wolves' 42-game win streak. McEachern, which is ranked 21st nationally by USA Today, will have to try to win without Smith once again when it faces Peachtree Ridge on the road tonight.

Smith underwent an MRI Wednesday, and the results were unknown.

"Tyler won't be available (tonight)," McEachern coach Kyle Hockman said, "so we'll need more than one person to step up and contribute. We have guys with a lot of talent, but not a lot of experience, and they're going to have to help us adjust."

Hockman expects to use a platoon of different players to fill the void left by Smith?s absence, including receivers C.J. Windom, Tyler Simmons, Michael Librone, Genuine Potts and Brandon Smith, as well with tight end Christian Robeson.

"C.J. is the main guy with the most experience making plays," Hockman said. "Tyler?s new and still getting up to speed. Christian will need to step up, and Michael, Genuine and Brandon will all take parts in what Tyler did."

The Indians' offense has had the benefit of practicing all week without Smith, easing the transition for the other players into the rotation.

"We've been getting repetitions in for those guys who didn't have much," Hockman said. "They're going to have to step up more and be playmakers. It will take time to adjust and we'll have to put in the work and get the reps to get to where we need to be until, hopefully, Tyler comes back."

With or without Smith, Hockman doesn?t want this kind of history to repeat itself tonight.

"It's the exact opposite last year when we were 0-2 and Peachtree Ridge was 2-0," he said. "Our backs were against the wall and we beat them. This year, we're 2-0 and they're 0-2. We're trying to not to have last year's scenario repeat itself."

Woah. There always seems to be something missing with McEachern. Even when they're loaded, they can't quite put it together.

That's why I called them the UGA of Georgia HS football in my first post this season. They have been doing this same thing since the late 1980s. They have a ton of D1 talent, and never win the big one - and almost always lose a headscratcher game during the season.

McEachern had 4 turnovers - including a muffed punt with 2 minutes left in the game that sealed it for Peachtree Ridge.

PR's LB Breon Dixon is apparently a real bad ass with 20 offers and pummeled the QB all night. Hockman was only 11-23 for 152, a pick, and he got sacked for a safety early in the game. No stats on Robeson - but it sounds like nobody did well.
