Sling TV Streaming Service Now Open to the Public

Sling TV Streaming Service Now Open to the Public

Dish Network streaming Internet television service, Sling TV, is now open to the public.
For $20 a month, Sling TV offers live access to ESPN, CNN, AMC, Adult Swim, Food Network and about a dozen other channels, without need for a cable or satellite subscription. As is typical with cable and satellite companies, Dish is upselling users by way of bundled channels. For an extra $5 each, on top of the standard $20 package, subscribers can add on channels such as the SEC Network and BeIn with ?Sports Extra,? or Disney XD with ?Kids Extra.?

Twenty dollars a month and for five extra dollars I can add the SEC Network?

    What do you guys think?

I think its close (to making me want to cut the cord), but I believe it lacks 2 things:

    1. Local channels
    2. Recording functionality

Sure you can get local channels with an HD antenna, but you would be changing the input on your TV or switching apps to do it.

From what I read you cannot pause/rewind/record live TV with it yet. That's a dealbreaker to me.

Its certainly getting closer, but I think they are missing a few pieces.

you can get local channels through a regular HD antenna for free after buying a $30 antenna at Wal-mart.

Go buy a separate DVR and you're set.

Yep. Very tempting for someone like me who doesn't watch a lot of tv.
