    Orange Bowl question

If Ohio State wins this weekend but stays at #5, wouldn't they go to the Orange Bowl, rather than Michigan State? I haven't seen anyone mention this scenario.

Rules say that the Orange Bowl can not take the Big 10 champ, that's why its Michigan State.

    Nope...

If FSU loses, they go to the first non-NY6 bowl that has a ACC tie-in.

If Bama loses, Mizzou takes the first SEC NY6 bowl, Bama gets the first non-NY6 bowl, we would get the second non-NY6 Bowl.

You are confused on the whole structure and pecking order. The only way to make it logical is if you are using "NY6" where you should be using "CFP"...

The top 10 in the final committee rankings are locked into NY6 bowls automatically. That gives levity for the league of 5 and an at-large outside the top 10. There is NO WAY FSU and BAMA aren't BOTH playing in NY6 bowls regardless of what happens on Championship Saturday. Unless you presume they drop from the top 10 in the event of a loss -- and that isn't going to happen because of all the other teams in the top 10 that will also be losing.

Beyond the NY6, there is no SEC pecking order anymore other than the Citrus Bowl, which gets first pick of the remaining SEC schools. After that, it's 6 bowls considered identical(Liberty, Music City, Belk, Texas, Gator, Outback). So, there is no "MSU would get second pick" -- if Bama got the Citrus, our bowl destination would be equal and interchangeable with 5 other SEC schools. But that said, we aren't dropping nearly that far, so it's a non-issue...

Bama will be in the Sugar, we will be in the Cotton or Peach, Ole Miss is 50/50 to make the other Cotton or Peach. Mizzou or Auburn(or OM) will get the Citrus. Then it'll go from there...

Even though the lower bowls are "equal" do they still pick in the same order as normal? Liberty still last is what I'm asking.

If they picked in the same order, they wouldn't actually be equal...

The bowls do not get to pick at all in the new format. The SEC determines who goes where in those 6 bowls to create interesting matchups and prevent teams from ending up in the same 2-3 bowls constantly thus destroying attendance(as had been happening in the old format). The Liberty is no closer to last than the Outback Bowl now...

    The actual pecking order is:
    CFP
    Sugar(when not CFP)
Orange(when not CFP and not to exceed 5 SEC trips every 8 years)
Cotton/Fiesta/Peach(when not CFP and when deserving SEC teams are available)
    Citrus
    Liberty/Belk/Texas/MusicCity/Gator/Outback
    Birmingham
    Independence
