This Week's Bourbon Edition - The Manhattan
Fellow whiskey drinkers -
Sad news from Las Vegas - I could not lay claim to the Pappy 23. Several folks gave me hints of where it may be, but it proved to be the white whale.
I did, however, spend some time with a nice lady barkeep at the Wynn who got me drinking that classic bourbon cocktail - The Manhattan. I had never really ventured into this territory, but I have to say, this is a nice twist especially with office parties right around the corner.
Classic: 2 oz bourbon or rye, 2 dash bitters, 1 oz Sweet Vermouth. Stir on ice, and strain into martini glass.
I prefer my drinks in low ball glass, and did deviate a bit by placing an ice ball in the drink. I used Eagle Rare and have to say, this was a great weeknight sipper.
Have a great Thanksgiving, mix yourself a great drink, and GO TO HELL OLE MISS!!!

One of the best cocktails out there. Super smooth. I could drink them until I pass out.

After my freshman year, I went to work for my roommates' grandfather at an auto parts warehouse. Guy was a big Shriner. The day before the 4th of July, he had my roommate and I make 15 gallons of Manhattans for for him to take to the Shrine Club to watch the fireworks the next night. I asked my roommate for the recipe and he said "I've been making these for my grand dad since I was 10, but I only know how to make them by the gallon." We drank a few while mixing and I ended up napping on a pallet of brake pads that afternoon.
