    Flab's best bourbons

...drinking Four Roses Single Barrell on a weeknight...don't judge..

    Best to worst:

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked - the only moderately priced bourbon that can top Woodford Reserve

Woodford Reserve - almost as good as scotch

Colonel E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof - very smooth for 125 proof. Burns on the way down. You'll need ice. Great flavor.

Four Roses Single Barrel - Smooth, great flavor, doesn't burn. By far the best for the Four Roses bottles.

Its a push from there. Bulleit, Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek, etc...

Makers Mark has a REALLY distinct taste. Considered a premium, but I drink it with Diet Coke or not at all.

Flab's best cheap bourbon: Old Charter (RIP 12 and 10 year versions...only the 8 is left). Goes great with mixers. Makes really good Manhattans.

If you like bourbon and you've never had a Manhattan, you should. Here's the recipe:

2 ounces rye whiskey (or a bourbon with high rye content - like Ole Charter)
    1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
    2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake with ice and strain, or serve with a few cubes of ice.

The ratio of rye whiskey/bourbon to sweet vermouth is a personal preference. I prefer 3:1. This drink is VERY smooth, flavorful, and potent.

I love Charter for cheap bourbon. I prefer makers or knob creek usually, but I haven't ventured as much into the bourbons as you have. Still pretty focused on that single malt...
