I truly don't care if someone is gay or not. I just don't understand why everyone has to act like it's this huge event. If gay people truly want equality, then why is "coming out" supposed to get special attention? That is not equal, it's superior.

First of all, I don't want to argue. Just a question. Do you think that showing a man and woman or teenage boy and teenage girl kissing is a sex scene?

No. Because 96% of America kisses the opposite sex. And in my religion, kissing is supposed to be done between man and woman. So I don't want my kids to see men kissing men.
ETA: And in my opinion...it's the gay community that is making it harder for themselves, not straight people. It's not about being equal to a lot of gay people, it's about being different. If it was about being equal, then there wouldn't be all of these discussions. Because a large majority of straight people dont care if someone is gay. the only people making a spectikal about it is the ones "coming out". why do that?
But again, just my opinion.

Depends on the age and context obviously. That's also normal.

All the gay people that i know want nothing more than for it to be non-issue as well, they're not looking for a "spectacle". They just want a place in the world alongside everyone else, to be treated the same. But the country, and especially our region is not even close to that, the evidence is all around.
One more thing about the "going too far" post - You obviously thought that you might have gone too far, because you said something about it in your post.
It's all cool...

1. What do you think seeing two men kissing is going to do to your children; what negative affect do you see from it?
2. The loudest, most vocal segment of many groups can give the entire group a bad rep. It happens all the time, in lots of ways. There are attention seekers everywhere. I addressed this a bit in my previous post. Some people respond to being told that that they are sick, twisted, evil, as bad as child molesters and "man on dog"(from a US senator). Would you maybe be a little angry and feel a little aggression, an urge to lash out and 'rub it in their face' a bit. Many of the gay people I know wish the gay pride parades would stop, because they make people resist more - and that may be true. But even those people have a right to do what they do. Just like the Westboro Baptist people...I find what they do repulsive, and I want to stop them, but they do have the right to their beliefs and way of doing things as long as they stay within the law.
ETA: Re: being different: There are a lot of ways that people choose to show their difference - bikers, biker posers, goths, piercings, tatoos, weird hair styles. Some gay people are different too, and want to express it.

To answer #1...I don't want my kids seeing two men kissing because I don't want them to think that is the way it is supposed to be. My religion believes that a man is meant to be with a woman, and that's the way I feel God made us. Hence Adam and Eve...not Adam and Adam. And hence men's penises and women's ******s. I also believe that nobody is born gay, so I don't want the media or people I don't know influencing my kids into thinking they should turn gay. If they decide to be gay then I want that to be their own choice, but I want them to grow up knowing that it is not supposed to be that way. And I'm not trying to offend anyone by saying that, it's just the way I feel and what I believe in.
I agree with part of what you said thoguh. And that's why I said I have no problem with gay people. Just like I have no problem with people that are tatted up with piercings. But don't get upset when "some people" look at it as strange when they see you. Does that mean everyone does? No. But just like piercings and tats make one stand out bc only a certain percentage have them, the same can be said about flamboyantly gay people. By the way, that was Your comparison, not mine. I'm not trying to compare gay people to tatted people, bc there's a huge lifestyle difference.
And FWIW, I also don't want my kids thinking tats and piercings are the way to go. Much like being gay, if they decide to do it, I want them to make that decision on their own...not because the media forces it on them and makes them feel like "everybody's doing it". And hopefully you feel that way too, even if you're gay.
Please don't think my stance is about anti-gay. I believe it's a sin, but I also believe lying is a sin. And neither is better or worse than the other. And in my faith, I am against the sin, not the sinner. I sin all the time and am not proud of it. And just like I wouldn't want a habitual liar to teach my children that lying is the right thing to do...I feel the same about homosexuality. And just like I wouldn't tell a liar that he couldn't lie, I wouldn't tell a gay person that he can't be gay. That's one's personal choice. But once again, don't get mad at me or feel slated because I choose not to surround myself or my kids with it.
Deep down, I guess that's my biggest issue. It's the fact that I don't care if you're gay or not....just don't expect for the 96% of the country that isn't gay to feel obligated to make your sexuality a big deal. I'm not beating the desk and asking for media attention because I am a Christian, am I? And the 4% of gay people definitely aren't rising up to say they care about my heterosexuality, are they? So why do I need to be told to care about your sexuality?
It's yours, it's personal, so keep it to yourself. I don't go around telling everyone I'm straight.
And you're right, it's the gay pride groups and the anti-gay marriage groups that make both of us look bad. Because I don't care if swdawg is gay, and he doesn't care if I'm not. But ose other two groups have got each of us thinking the other group cares, when it's probably just a small minority.
Does that make sense? So at the end of the day, the people that should be seeing how I feel are not likely on this board, just like the ones you're speaking too aren't here either. My apologies if I offended you. I am just passionate about "true equality", and i dont think the outspoken group of gay people understand what true equality is. And I'm tired of the majority(straight people) being made to feel like we should feel guilty, when the majority of us do not care what people do in their private life, just keep it private and we will too.
It's late and I'm rambling. I'm done here I think.

And one other thing...
I really didn't think I had gone too far. And that's part of what I'm talking about. I was expressing my feelings and beliefs, but once again I've been made to feel that I always have to be "politically correct", instead of honest about the way things are portrayed.
Thank goodness there's not somebody to ban me because my opinion and feelings aren't the same as the small minority. Just because straight people are 96% of the country, doesn't me we have to give up our feelings and opinions because the other 4% is screaming. Just like a small percentage of gays are Gay Pride people....a small percentage of straights are the vocal ones against gays. The majority of us don't care and don't want to know what your sexuality is. It's none of my business. Just like my straight friends sex life is none of my business.

Yea I saw it. It's all good. I don't want any enemies on this board, bc I consider myself a friendly guy. And I even have a gay cousin and I truly have no problems with gay people. Just the way I am made to feel because I don't want to hear about their sexual preference.
Yea, we can continue the conversation here or direct message, whatever.

I agree with you Cadaver - just letting you know you aren't alone on this board with your line of thinking on this issue. I'm sure it is the silent majority as well.

Thank you. I typically stay silent on issues like this, but I'm tired of the media and society acting like the 96 percentile should have to tip toe around the 4 percentile, when a majority of the larger group doesn't give a shit what ANYONE does in their private life. I don't expect you to tip toe around my feelings, so don't expect me to either...THAT is what EQUALITY is.

Chris Broussard said a few things, that I agree with....
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ba...221941033.html
"I'm a Christian. I don't agree with homosexuality. I think it's a sin, as I think all sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is. [ESPN's] L.Z. [Granderson] knows that. He and I have played on basketball teams together for several years. We've gone out, had lunch together, we've had good conversations, good laughs together. He knows where I stand and I know where he stands. I don't criticize him, he doesn't criticize me, and call me a bigot, call me ignorant, call me intolerant.
"In talking to some people around the league, there's a lot Christians in the NBA and just because they disagree with that lifestyle, they don't want to be called bigoted and intolerant and things like that. That's what LZ was getting at. Just like I may tolerate someone whose lifestyle I disagree with, he can tolerate my beliefs. He disagrees with my beliefs and my lifestyle but true tolerance and acceptance is being able to handle that as mature adults and not criticize each other and call each other names.
"... Personally, I don't believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly premarital sex between heterosexuals, if you're openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that's a sin. If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals, whatever it may be, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I do not think the Bible would characterize them as a Christian."

This is a really interesting take. The first paragraph is spot on, and what I would hope more christians learn to be - not necessarily accepting, but at least tolerant of others.
The second paragraph is probably very true about the NBA right now - there's probably a ton of guys who aren't on board with the story of the day, but they know better than to speak their mind and have their reps tarnished.
Third paragraph he goes complete 180 and becomes judgmental and preachy. Yawn.

I saw a reader comment on the CNN article on this story:
Dear national media, we appreciate your great efforts to force Americans to accept the homosexual lifestyle. Pedophiles can't wait for you to get behind our cause next!
