We would have beaten anyone we came up against. We probably would have beaten NC State in 2.

Possibly, but Fox had ****ed McLoud so badly, he was probably destined to get rocked by whoever he pitched against.

That may be true. Still no clue what happened to him his last three starts. He was really good against VCU in the regionals, and I think they had won like 20 in a row coming into that game. Then he goes:

vs ND: 5 innings, 6 ER
vs UVA: 5 innings, 4 ER
vs Vandy: 2 innings 6 ER

Now granted, he did settle into the UVA game a bit but he still wasn't good and the ND start and Vandy start were just BAD.

I agree. With the exception of our #1 pitcher starting badly as he had for a month, we dominated #4 Vandy the rest of game one then blew them out 13-2 and 9-0. We would have whipped unseeded NC State just as bad or worse.

NC State wasn't the hottest team in the CWS, Mississippi State was.

By Omaha, and especially the Championship series, our #1 pitcher was Bednar. The better argument would be was McLeod #2 or #3. Harding had pitched incredible the entire postseason.

Vandy didn't have great bats that year. They were very fortunate to take advantage of a hot and depleted NC State that arguably was the hottest team at the moment. They had just come off of beating a dominant Arkansas that was the favorite. I think we would've won as well especially with their covid situation however I think they would've been tougher than Vandy.

Yeah, NC State almost beat Vandy with spare players, barely fielding a team of 9 against them. And still gave Vandy all they could handle.
Arkansas losing definitely shows a program that has CWS teams almost every year, and yet how lucky you need to be to win it all. Lucky, as in bad luck also (catch that foul ball in the previous CWS).

I agree w/you. I don't buy the NCSU would've beaten us mantra. We were playing like our hair was on fire. We were simply the best team in the field. Texas was the best team we faced and we beat their asses 3/4 games that year.

100%! That State team almost seemed to me 10 foot tall and bulletproof. You just always had the feeling someone was gonna get the big hit or make the big play, and they always did during that run. And If we had the lead at the end it was game over, with Landon. That was our year to win it all and we did. No one was denying us that year!

Arkansas is the big what if. That was the one team I did not think we matched up great with but at the same time you have to ask where their pitching would have been by the time the championship series rolled around. I mean they were stretched so thin in the postseason that Kopps threw 10 innings in the span of 24 hrs in the Supers.

Yep,They lost their #1 starter in sec tournament and that killed them. They had to use Kopps as a reliever AND a starter in the supers. They just didn't have enough pitching to win it all after #1 went down.
