Mangum is who falls into the miracle kid. He was basically cut his Freshman year fall and ends up the national Freshman of year, SEC freshman of the year, and all time MSU and SEC hits leader. That's a kid that if you would've asked people around the program about that fall they would have told you we'd be lucky if he ever contributed.

He's a player. One thing about MSU walk ons in baseball is that we have plenty of success stories
Another is that every player in Samford, Campbell, Stetson, Mercer ... would be a Walkon freshman at Mississippi State. But that's were studs like Nate Lowe (best 1B since Raffo), Yeager, and Ledbetter came from.
I understand that Condon at UGA was a "preferred" walk on. MSU is due a miracle kid.
Condon was a walk on, but not "preferred". Condon qualified academically for what is called The Zell Miller program via HOPE - which is full tuition and fees (regular HOPE is not). Stricklin still had to be begged to give him a chance to walk on. Then he made him redshirt and wouldn't even give him a chance to win a spot.

Man, I was really scratching my head on that one because I did not remember that being the case at all.
