Fascinating Jomboy video on the Mets and breaking up double plays
Long but worth a watch. Basically, the other 29 teams try to break up double plays when they can (within the rules of course), but the Mets just ... don't. It's pretty apparent that there's a team policy on this, whether from a misunderstanding of the rules, or just personal philosophy of the manager and front office.
