I'll be honest, I've never really been a fan of Gotro. I cannot stand the tap your chest bull crap. That is some little league tournament team type stuff

It's cool when you actually have a 2 strike approach and protect the plate and battle, but it's moronic and silly when you pump your chest only to whiff on a breaking ball 2 feet off the plate

Hitting coaches certainly help but I just don't think we've recruited very good hitters the past couple of classes. At a certain point, hitters can just hit. They can be refined but we seem to very up and down with our plate discipline. It will show up for a stretch and then totally disappear.

I don't know that any of us can put our finger on why we continue to find ways to lose but I think we're collectively out of patience with it.

If we're swinging at balls and not making situational adjustments at the plate that is on the coaches IMO.

Again IMO based on observations and hearing comments I feel like we treat our players too much like they're pros and not enough like they are college players.

Sometimes the COACH has to tell the hitters "hey this guy isn't throwing strikes. Take some pitches." That is just an example.

Or when you get two strikes protect the plate. Make sure the ball is in a certain zone and try to put the ball in play or go opposite field.

If I were in Lemonis's shoes after the game I would have gone up to Gautreau and told him "hey! If I'm fired you're fired too. So I suggest you start teaching some fundamentals like this is week four of the season. And that includes baserunning too."

It is amazing thst Lemonis continues to recruit outstanding defensive shortstops that can't hit a lick. I mean literally every good team in the SEC has a Stud Defensive Shortstop who can hit in the upper .290's or higher. And State locks in on guys who can't hit their baby weight!

Edit to say it does explain slow starts and later improvement.

I've heard him say the same, and it seems to fit the pattern our hitters follow through the season. We always tend hit to be hitting it well in the second half. The question I have is what are you teaching them in the offseason, and how do you explain the slow start for returning starters? Do they forget how to hit every offseason?

What sucks is that we scheduled a weak OOC schedule, and we are taking bad losses. I also don't look forward the second phase of JG's philosophy, which will be 10-12 lazy fly balls per game.

Time after time, looking like all of them.
