That?s very cool. I saw them clearing that area recently and wondered what was planned.
With parking the way it is, the more apartment style they can make new housing, the more the school will benefit. However, if they want to attract upperclassmen specifically, then they will need to allow alcohol for students over 21. While that doesn't matter for everyone - if you are essentially living in an apartment, cooking your food, and want to have a glass of wine or beer after dinner, more power to you. It would be especially hypocritical if the mixed use portion has restaurants serving alcohol but students living there couldn't have it in their residence.
I'm surprised there hasn't been a push to open a couple of large parking garages on the outskirts of campus on one of the larger existing parking lots. A&M has a few of these, and the way the exterior is designed, they look like other educational buildings, not parking garages.
This is cool and all but housing should be provided for graduate students and their families... All I've got to say about it
A planned parking garage is in the works.
