Not that simple. I agree self should throw first sign that the game is on the line, better to have one win in the bag. But, if you throw him 3 innings on Friday and he throws 30-40 pitches he won't be the same come Sunday if this is repeated. You are asking for injury a year or two down the road if not sooner. It is one thing to throw 60-70 or 100 pitches in one outing but over time throwing 30-40 twice in 3 days is awful on the arm. Once you get past 20-30 pitches you have to have rest. You can get away with it a couple of times a season but if you do it over an extended period of time it will wear you down and you will get hurt. This wasn't going to be our year to begin with, why risk injury with a young arm that will only get better with time.
