Deer gun season doesn't open until Nov 16 here in Alabama. I don't bow hunt so I have to wait a few more weeks.

Fish - I actually killed him just NW of Wellington (north of Ft Collins). It was a guided hunt but 100% free range. Yes, he's a 6x6 but only scored about 270". Blew an opportunity at a 300" bull the day before that just made me sick.
Bark - Elk is not as gamey as deer to me. In fact, the steaks were very good. I got to where I was using a cajun injector a lot of the time to marinate them but they were good straight on the grill with nothing but a simple rub.
IMO elk is one of the best game meats that you can eat. If the opportunity ever presents itself don't let it slip by without trying.Quote:
