Something measurable to bet whether or not Collins' D is better than 2012 Wilson.

Scoring Defense? Seems to be the only fair comparison. Which may not actually be fair because Collins has to start the season with Oklahoma State.

Any suggestions?

Average yards per play. Scoring could be a function of turning the ball over by the offense.

Wilson automatically loses that bet. His defense was designed to concede yards while hoping the offense would eventually make a mistake and hoping to not give up the big play. That defense would naturally give up more yards per play.

We'll probably need to use several statistics, but if we're going to use just one statistic I think Scoring Defense is the most fair way to compare different styles of defenses.

Maybe we could use Scoring Defense in SEC games only.

The schedules arent even close to comparable- which is another factor. We are subbing Oklahoma State for South Alabama basically.

Would really be hard to do it in some type of bet using 1 measurable metric

but Collins not giving Troy 5 to 6 yds on almost every play should offset that **
